Survey of the career and interests of the Brazilian industrialist, collector, and patron of the arts, whose two houses, the Chácara do Céu and the Museu do Açude in Rio de Janeiro, and collection were transferred to the Brazilian state in 1983 and operate as the de Castro Maya Museums. Discusses his patronage of art, museums, and publishing; and his collections of French painting, 18th-20th cs., works of European and local artists of the 18th and 19th cs., oriental objets d'art, modern Brazilian art, and decorative arts.
