In-depth analysis of the iconography of the page depicting the birth of John the Baptist in the Turin-Milan Hours (Turin, Museo Civico; and formerly, Turin, Biblioteca Nazionale). Traces exegetical and typological traditions behind the imagery of the page which includes a small separate scene of the Baptism of Christ below the birth of John. Many of the elements of the John scene are investigated, including the iconographical meaning of the dog and cat in front of the canopied bed with its baldachino associations. Some scholars attribute this scene to Jan van Eyck and/or his workshop.
