Criticizes the recent exhibition and its accompanying catalogue for forcing a comparison between impressionism and realism which denies the possibility of continuity within the American art world at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th cs. Finds the authors' revisionist approach limiting, and argues that it leads to misstatements about the works on display, and to a repetitive and sometimes confusing catalogue presentation.
