Studies illuminated printed books of the late 15th and early 16th cs., published by Aldus Manutius and illuminated by Benedetto Bordon. On the basis of a number of surviving examples with coats of arms, concludes that these small printed editions of classics, especially Dante and Petrarch, enjoyed great popularity among the literati of Italy during this period. Discusses Bordon's miniature style, and shows that some works were decorated not by him but by members of his workshop.
