Traces the history, 6th-18th cs., of a church (now in ruins) on the via Salaria between Rome and Rieti, referred to in Medieval documents as S. Maria de Vico Novo, and now known as the church of the Madonna dei Colori. Identifies the site with a Roman statio, the Vicus Novus, known from classical records.
