Abstract (en)

Traces the history, Antiquity-20th c. of the site of the present Villa Strohl Fern in Rome. The artist and benefactor Alfred Strohl Fern acquired the property in 1879 and commissioned a Gothic Revival style villa for himself and a series of artists' residences. (His guests were principally Germans, Russians and Italians).
