Transcribes and discusses a previously unpublished letter (Rome, Archivio Segreto Vaticano, 1815) from Antonio Canova to cardinal Ercole Consalvi. In the letter, Canova discusses his mission to Paris to oversee the restitution of works of art removed from the Vatican during the Napoleonic occupation.
