Abstract (en)

Illustrates the importance of buildings accommodating stores on the ground floor and apartments on the upper floors. Claims that these buildings are essential to the renewal of urban life. Describes the evolution of this type of settlement from the days of ancient Rome to the present. Presents nine examples of existing building stocks and the ambitions of planners today to build such multipurpose buildings in Göteborg.
