Abstract (en)
Essays by Nakamura, Kimio Kawaguchi, and Nobuyuki Kamba on three versions of The Flight of Lot and his Family from Sodom by Rubens and his studio, presenting art historical and technical evidence from studies conducted for the exhibition of the three paintings and related material at the National Museum of Western Art in Tokyo, 13 July-29 Aug 1993. Reports that the version in the Ringling Museum, Sarasota, was found to be the original by Rubens and his studio, while the one in the Bass Museum, Miami Beach, is a studio copy and the one in the National Museum of Western Art, Tokyo, is a copy of the Miami Beach version, tentatively attributed to Jordaens. Also includes essays by Arnout Balis on Rubens's studio practices and Walter Liedtke on style and expression in some religious paintings by Rubens.
