Describes pentimenti revealed in recent X-radiographs of four British paintings in the Huntington Collection, San Marino: Thomas Gainsborough's Jonathan Buttall (The Blue Boy), ca.1770; Joshua Reynolds's Sarah Siddons as the Tragic Muse, 1784; Thomas Lawrence's Sarah Barrett Moulton (Pinkie), 1794; and John Constable's View on the Stour near Dedham, 1822.
