Investigates the Spiegel Historiael (The Hague, Koninklijke Bibliotheek, MS KA XX), Jacob van Maerlant's Middle Dutch version of the Speculum Historiale, originally written 1283-1287. The Hague copy was executed ca.1315-1330, and is the only extant illustrated manuscript of this work. It is a Flemish product, perhaps from Ghent or the surrounding area.
