Abstract (en)

Examines the author's views on aspects of the debate regarding Herrera's contribution to the history of architecture and his role in the Escorial; notes that her account implies without championing a restoration of Herrera's status as a genius, and concludes that the "Herrera problem" has not been solved, but its significance is diminished in favor of the study of the moral and political nature of architectural theory and practice in the age of Philip II.
