Abstract (en)
Draws attention to differences between Bartlett and Canadian printmakers illustrating Canada in the 1830s and 1840s: whereas the wilderness is the predominant subject of the 117 engravings after Bartlett in N.P. Willis's Canadian scenery illustrated, contemporary local prints glorify the achievements of settlers and the growth of cities and towns.
