Abstract
(en)
Discusses the audiences for William Hogarth's prints and paintings - his so-called modern moral subjects. Paulson states: "The relationship of consumer and product developed by Hogarth over the 40 years of his career was based on a series of overlapping models, which I shall designate: the Veil of Allegory, Subscription, the Theatre, Beauty (the Labyrinth and the Chase), Framed Print and Folio, Property, and Public Exhibition." Particular attention is given to Hogarth's print subscription tickets and theoretical writings.
