Describes a project at the Library of Congress (Washington, DC) designed to give better access to the images in its collections; reports that since 1982 the Prints and Photographs Division has been recording selected collections in electronic form and cataloguing them for reference access; since 1988 records are catalogued directly in MARC format, and the early records are being converted. Focuses on cataloguing issues.
