Study of a late 16th or early 17th c. jasper pendant with an image of S. Michael slaying the dragon set in gold with precious stones and pearls, recently acquired by the Portuguese state. Considers its possible relationship to the Order of Christ--in view of the cross on the shield--and to the cult of S. Michael, which played a fundamental role in the Portuguese overseas expansion.
