Chronicles the activities of British architects in Rome, 1815-1825, in particular their efforts to measure and record the appearance of ancient Roman monuments. Discusses the influence of these ancient structures on British architecture of the first half of the 19th c., and points out the contribution made by Taylor and Cresy's illustrated publication Architectural antiquities of Rome (1821-1822).
