Abstract (en)
Considers the kinds of flute in use during J.S. Bach's lifetime with a view to distinguishing which of these types are more or less likely to have been in the hands of certain players at particular times. Exploring all these links can provide important clues to Bach's purposes in writing for the flute. Appended are two lists: 1) flautists known to Bach; and 2) woodwind makers of Bach's lifetime, i.e., act.1685-1750.
