Three of the most prominent museums devoted to the world wars in France offer fertile terrain for an exploration of the museological construction of history and memory: the Mémorial de Verdun, opened in 1967; the Mémorial-Musée de la Paix in Caen, inaugurated in 1988; and the Historial de la Grande Guerre in Péronne, opened in 1992. Includes discussion of these museums' attitudes towards the artifacts they preserve.
