Discusses two English manuscript sheets of hunting calls for the hunting horn which date from the second half of the 16th c. (New Haven, Beinecke Library). Shows how these manuscripts help illustrate a pivotal point in the evolution of the modern horn - the transition from animal horn or ivory to metal instruments.
