Exhibition concentrated on painting and sculpture primarily created between 1860 and 1930, although European paintings from the 15th though the 18th c. were incorporated. Catalogue includes the following essays: "The acceptance of Pointillism in Japan - centering on the works of Kijiro Ota," by Shogo Ōtani; "From murals to walls - the genealogy of decoration," by Mika Kuraya; "Ryusei Kishida's interpretation of Dürer - the role of reproductions in the Japanese reception of European classic art," by Naoki Satō; "Icon and narrative of the Yoga (Japanese Western-style painting) in the Meiji era - a discourse on the acceptance of historical paintings," by Chikashi Kitazaki; "Western art scene after the late 19th c. and 'realistic representation' in modern Japanese oil painting - centered on the analysis of matière used by Gustave Courbet and Kunitaro Suda," by Chieko Tsuzuki; "The surface and the internal life - the obscurity of the Rodinism in modern Japanese sculpture," by Kōji Takahashi; "Visions of the West," by Shuji Takashina; and "On space," by Kunio Motoe.
