Survey of colonial architecture, religious and civil, in the state of Mexico. Includes accounts of the Spanish conquest of the area; descriptions and analyses of formal elements, types, and characteristics of the architecture of each century, 16th-19th; individual studies of the architecture (mainly churches) of ca.100 locations; a survey of civil architecture and engineering (hospitals, theaters, bridges, aqueducts); and a study of the style of 19th c. architecture; also includes a commentary on the research and cataloguing method, and a glossary of architectural terms.
