Presents new documentary evidence dated 1498-1630 establishing that Bronzino's Pietà with S. Mary Magdalen (Florence, Uffizi) was commissioned by Lorenzo d'Antonio Cambi for his family's chapel in S. Trinita, Florence, and casting light on the history of the chapel and of the Cambi family's association with S. Trinita; the documents, transcribed in the appendix, include endowments for masses on the feast of the Magdalen, a payment by Lorenzo d'Antonio to Bronzino in 1529 for the altarpiece, payments to various workmen in 1540 for the frame, a payment to one Mariotto dipintore in 1542 for a curtain for the altarpiece, and a record of the sale of the chapel by a poor descendant, following which a new altar was erected to S. Miniato in 1630.
