Abstract (en)

Catalogue published in conjunction with an exhibition of books, prints, illuminated manuscripts and other works from the Paris library. The exhibition was held at the Library of Congress, Washington, DC (fall, 1995). The main theme of the show was the ways in which a national culture was developed through the power of the French state, illustrated in the works collected here.
