Abstract (en)
Argues that the date 1589 on the bust of Girolamo Grimani by Vittoria in S. Giuseppe di Castello (Venice) refers to the completion of all work on the high altar and apse of the church and does not mean that Veronese could not have completed the Nativity before his death (1588), since the architectural and sculptural setting, also by Vittoria, must have taken some years to complete. Proposes that a sheet in Berlin-Dahlem with studies for an Adoration of the Shepherds, dated 1585, represents an early stage in the development of Veronese's ideas for the altarpiece, which would thus be one of his last works.
