Discusses artists who incorporate the concept of "archive" into their work. In their various approaches to the aggregation of objects and information, they question the qualities of authority and power associated with institutional (especially museum) archives and collections. Examines works by Christian Boltanski, Georgina Starr, Claes Oldenburg, Marcel Broodthaers, Hans Haacke, and Renée Green. Also discusses photographer Wilhelm Schürmann's use of his art collection.
