Abstract (en)

Wide-ranging investigation of the iconography of Holocaust and Holocaust-influenced art: works by artists who were concentration camp inmates, works by artists who survived and were liberated, and art by escapees as well as by soldiers. The author also discusses works by artists who never personally witnessed the Holocaust, but who depicted the Holocaust and related themes of cruelty and anti-semitism including Picasso and Lipchitz. A chapter is devoted to the figure of Christ as the crucified Jew.
