Abstract
(en)
Explores the evidence for contact between ecclesiastical and military building in England during the 30 years following the Norman Conquest of 1066. Surveys military influences upon church building, then examines the variety of connections between religious and secular architecture through the career of Bishop Gundulf. Gundulf seems to have been responsible for the building of at least two castles and one cathedral as well as several smaller churches and abbeys.
