Abstract (en)

Discusses Kahlo's use of native Mexican costume to create a self-image that called attention to her status within Mexican society. Kahlo's adoption of indigenous dress also was part of her political statement about Mexico's economic and cultural relationship to the United States, beginning in the 1930s.
