Abstract (en)

Questions the provenance of 400-500 paintings in the collection of the Österreichische Galerie, Vienna, many of which appear to have come as the result of wartime theft during the Nazi regime, or as part of forced bargains to procure exit visas for Jews anxious to leave the country. Austria is beginning to consider how it will deal with these wrongfully acquired works.
