Abstract (en)
Explores the history of Degas's 1881 wax sculpture (known through many posthumous bronze casts) of the Little Dancer. This piece was the focal point of an exhibition held at the Joslyn Art Museum, Omaha (winter 1998-1999). Controversy has arisen over the curator's decision to replace the traditional short, greyish tutu with a knee-length white one that more closely resembles those worn by dancers in paintings and pastels by Degas.
