Abstract (en)
Perquages or percages are an oddity supposedly only found in Jersey. Argues that they were not sanctuary paths as traditionally believed, and that indeed there was no such thing as a sanctuary path - the myth equating sanctuary path to perquage and the consequential striking of a route from each parish church to the sea. Traces perquages in physical terms and in terms of land law of the island. The outstanding feature is their association with streams and mills.
