Abstract (en)
Documents generated by a 1751 property dispute in Stirling throw new light on the form and function of the wooden frontages applied to stone houses in the late medieval and early modern periods, and reveal how these structures related to the way in which streets were progressively narrowed by advancing frontages. The forestairs mentioned in leases and property transactions are sometimes domestic spaces rather than mere stairs.
