Abstract (en)

Identifies and dates the architectural phases (13th-20th cs.) of the Rocca, Formigine. The castle was constructed (13th-17th cs.) and underwent significant restoration work (16th-late 20th cs.). Examines the late 16th c. mural painting View of Formigine (Spezzano, Castello), focusing on the representation of the Rocca. Observes that information provided by artists' views should be considered as a secondary source compared with that gained though a direct architectural analysis of the object.
