Critiques an exhibition Terzo fuoco a Palermo 1760-1825; ceramiche di Sperlinga e Malvica (Palermo, 12 Apr-29 June 1997), and the accompanying catalogue (Palermo, 1997). Finds that, contrary to the thesis of the exhibition, potters in Palermo continued to be influenced by Neapolitan rather than French ceramics. Discusses the 18th c. production of majolica and porcelain in Palermo, the ceramics produced in the Sperlinga and Malvica manufactories in Palermo, Neapolitan ceramists and ceramics in the city, and the production of lustre-ware in Naples.
