Presents and analyzes a painting Sacrifice to Minerva (private collection), attributing it to Pierre Lemaire. The painting (which is inscribed on the reverse with the inscription in the title) is mentioned in inventories (1695-1729) of the Dal Pozzo family's collection. Observes the presence of similar erudite inscriptions on the reverses of several paintings by Poussin, and suggests that the writer was Cassiano or Carlo Antonio Dal Pozzo. Also surveys Pierre's career (1632-1665) in Rome, friendship with Poussin, and activity as an art dealer.
