Discusses the reduction of fully illustrated 13th c. bestiaries to marginalia in prayer-books, with special reference to two English psalters from the 1310s and ca.1303-1308 respectively, namely the Queen Mary Psalter (London, British Library, MS Roy. 2.B.VII) and the Isabella Psalter (Munich, Bayerische Staatsbibliothek, MS gall. 16).
