Outlines the life and activity of Bombasi as a man of letters, collector, and correspondent. Focuses on his time as the tutor of Odoardo Farnese (b.1573, cardinal in 1591). Describes Bombasi's funerary chapel in S. Caterina della Rosa (or dei Funari) in Rome, which includes his commission of S. Margherita (ca.1597-1599) from Annibale Carracci. Notes other ties between Bombasi and Annibale, and posits that Bombasi played an important role in the painter's rise in Reggio and Rome. Concludes with an appendix transcribing Bombasi's will of 1601.
