Studies the works of Monet done on the Normandy coast, emphasizing specific sites in distinct chronological chapters: Sainte-Adresse, Etretat, and Trouville (1867-1870); Les Petites Dalles, Fécamp, Varengeville, and Pourville (1880-1882); and, especially, Etretat (1883-1886). There is as well a chapter devoted to Bordighera (1884). Discusses the paintings in the context of the growing tourist industry.
