Adapts the essay from the catalogue accompanying the exhibition A brush with light, watercolor painters of northeast Ohio (Portsmouth, Southern Ohio Museum). Studies the development of watercolor in the state, emphasizing artists active in the Cleveland area in the first half of the 20th c. Notes especially the work of Henry Keller, Grace Kelly, August Biehle, Jr., William Sommer, Charles Burchfield, Frank Wilcox, Clarence Carter, and Paul Travis, among others.
