Abstract
(en)
Investigates the iconography of peasant material culture primarily in 15th c. art (manuscripts and some frescoes, paintings and prints). Includes consideration of peasant clothing and sumptuary laws. Cautions that images in art must be carefully understood in context, and that their correct interpretation typically requires the incorporation of other sources such as inventories, laws, chronicles, plays, sermons, and archaeological evidence.
