Looks at a movable playing-card typeface created in 1855 by the anonymous engraver "Huchot" for type founder Alexandre de Berny. The card images, which could be printed in conjunction with regular typeface, were widely used by printers in Europe, Britain and the United States well into the 20th c. Notes some other 19th c. methods of illustrating playing cards in books.
