Abstract (en)
Notes the importance of the rose windows in Gothic cathedrals for Dante's conception of the "Candida Rosa" in the Paradiso. Notes some of the sites in both France and Italy where the windows, especially in their eight-petaled form, could be found. Discusses the recurrence of the number eight in many parts of sacred architecture and the appropriateness of Dante's use of it in the Paradiso.
