The book is published to coincide with the centenary of the publication of Ebenezer Howard's Tomorrow : a peaceful path to real reform (published as Garden cities of tomorrow in 1902). His book proved to be the most influential work on city planning in the 20th c. It provided the template for some 30 new towns in the United Kingdom, helped to establish the Town and Country Planning Association and ultimately led to an Act of Parliament which established how the building of cities would be governed. Howard's book argues for a return to civilized and sustainable urban communities. Assesses how his work has faced up to the concerns of the 20th c. and analyses future trends.
