Provides a critical reassessment of John Everett Millais's Pre-Raphaelite and later portraits, examining his status during his lifetime as one of the most highly regarded portraitists of the Victorian period, and considering the neglect his work has suffered this century. The catalogue includes contemporary drawings, documentation and photographs, as well as paintings that have rarely been seen in public or reproduced since his death in 1896.
