Abstract
(en)
As storehouses of the material remains of the past, museums assisted in processes of invention, which included the manufacture of "narratives of causation" as means of bridging the gap of historical discontinuity. Examines the role played by museum collections of so-called "national antiquities" in constructing the narrative of national historical identity.
