Abstract
(en)
Explores the influence of Henri Rousseau's style on early 20th c. Italian art. Examines the paintings of Tullio Garbari, who adopted a naive style (based on Rousseau, Carlo Carrà and Ardengo Soffici and on traditional ex-voto painting) for his religious art. Also treats the activity (Milan, Galleria del Milione, 1930-1931) of the gallery owner Edoardo Persico, who attempted to renovate Italian culture through a series of exhibitions of primitivism in early 20th c. art.
