Sets forth the origins of liturgical drama in France, emphasizing its links to the physical stucture of a given church. Notes especially the contribution of Notker il Balbo, a monk at Sankt Gallen, to the form, and the report of 954 made by Abbot Ethelwold of Abingdon concerning the presentation of the Quem quaeritis.
