Abstract (en)

Presents an unpublished S. Jerome Penitent (ca.1546; private collection) - a third version of works already known in the Museo del Prado (Madrid) and the Galleria Doria-Pamphilj (Rome). Posits that it was originally acquired by Nicolò Da Mula in 1546, in place of the Doria-Pamphilj version he had commissioned in 1544 but refused (the earlier work was then acquired by Giovanni Battista Erizzo). Profiles Erizzo and speculates about his interest in both Lotto and Jacopo Dal Ponte (Bassano).
