Charts the repercussions of our Western obsession with reproductions, facsimiles, re-enactments, doubles, and simulacra. Schwartz examines a wide range of modernist, feminist and postmodern theories about replication and mechanical reproduction. The book is a blend of microsociology, cultural history and philosophical reflection written for those concerned with problems of authenticity, identity and originality.
